Song: SPACE Genre: Ambient Synth Pop Artist: Benjamin Russell & Rob Stuart Record Label: TCBE Records Release Date: March 2, 2022 SPACE was written in 1977 as a plea to my mother to stop pretending everything was OK, and to let me help her. I performed it in my acoustic live sets. That version appears on my 2010 ROCKHILL CD (https://li.sten.to/space). Thanks to Rob Stuart's brilliant arrangement and production, this version of SPACE evokes the emotions I felt, better than I could have imagined. The astral, glacial space between the words. Thank you Rob Stuart! He has produced music with and for many talented artists. He is the host of the weekly MIXTAPE SHOW on David Marsden's NYthespirit.com. ----- Benjamin Russell - Short Bio (from my website Home page) A Canadian singer-songwriter, painter from Saskatoon, now living in Montreal, I am known for my hit single, MIRACLE, for which I was nominated, "Most Promising Male Vocalist", in the 80s. I have released many albums, singles and videos, and have shown my paintings in exhibitions. ----- Longer Bio (from my website About page) I am a multi-genre singer-songwriter, painter, writer and graphic artist (I design all my album covers), originally from Saskatoon, a small city in Saskatchewan, a prairie province in western Canada. I now live in Montreal, Quebec. My partner in life and art is Elyce. I was nominated, "Most Promising Male Vocalist", in the 80s for my hit single, "Miracle (Miracle of Love)". I have released many albums, singles and videos. My songs are wide-ranging in style and hard to pin down, with influences from folk to punk, from rock to jazz and classical. I've even made a country album, HALF TON TRUCK. I have a couple of other personas at the extreme ends of my creative spectrum: RIVER OF STONE (acoustic/folk-style), and GURU GROAN (aggressive electronic dance). I come from an era when it was normal for artists to go where their creativity led them, so I offer no excuse. I may not be as famous as some of my influences, but I believe I deserve the creative latitude allowed The Clash, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Adele and Kanye West. In 2008, at one of my lowest points, I had the dream which started me painting. I described it to Elyce as being in "water colour hues". She surprised me by giving me the gift of my first paints. My watercolour and gouache paintings have been exhibited and sold in art shows. I've realized lately that I'm also a poet, and I've begun creating Instagram posts with excerpts of poems and lyrics. ---- LYRICS It's not things you talk about That make me feel afraid It's the things that you don't talk about The things that you won't talk about The feelings you've betrayed It's the space between the words Where you will seldom dare In the space between the words There's a darkness growing there I know there's more inside of you And you've glimpsed it once or twice But you shiver when you think of it You freeze up when you think of it Your soul's encased in ice It's the space between the words... Everywhere you go You know they know Your humiliation But you're not talking to them Can't you see? Talk to me It's the space between the words... -----
